Here we are, looking at the beginning of the warm weather. When most people see the flowers starting to peek from the ground and hear the birds singing, we think of summer; runners, on the other hand, start looking for races and thinking of the warm weather they can run in. I know that Paul will be so glad to leave the treadmill to me and my 1:00am walks. Ask just about any runner and getting outside and pounding the pavement is what running is about. It is truly a sport where everyone can win. After any race you can hear people ask "What was your time?" or "How did you do?"; they are asking because they want to know how you did in your race against "yourself". Most already know if you came in before or after them, they want to know if you just had your PR (personal record). If so, you won (no matter how many finished in front of you)! If you just finished your first 5K, you won! Even if you come in last, it's still better than never running one! I look forward to the season starting so that I can visit with friends that I see almost every weekend during race season. (Ummmm, Karen, I believe that we have a dance lesson coming up...) So, runners, are you ready? Get set. Let's go find some races!!!!!
The Blacksburg Classic was February 27 and the runners from our club have said that it was a wonderful race. (I will get results posted as soon as they update their website). We also have lots of club members who are signing up for Martinsville on March 26. I am hoping to add a race schedule and have it listed on the left side (I just haven't figured it out yet! LOL!).
It'd also be nice if an influential running club could pressure local races into getting their dates and times figured out early into the season for those of us who like to plan ahead. And also perhaps leaning on them to use sites like www.iplayoutside.com for posting info and results, since so many WV/VA runners rely on that site (and it is free advertising)...
